General Meeting Minutes
18 March, 2005
|
On a perfect mild, sunny day we welcomed 52 members and a visitor, John, to our meeting. President John reiterated a message from Queen Elizabeth. There was a display of members photos to be admired and a member explained that good photo paper can be purchased at the new Dollarama for $l.00. What a deal. May I remind all members who have not paid their 2005 membership dues to please be in touch with Katherine Croxson. Mindshare reviews A new Mindshare, SuperPack Plus for windows has reached our club. Helen Gordon had so much fun trying it she gave us a presentation. The following is a review of Microsoft Plus! SuperPack. This program from Mindshare had 2 CD ROM disks of which the first contained Microsoft Plus! For Windows XP. This disk included personalizing your PC with screensavers and themes, 3 games and does more with digital music. The second disk had a program called Plus! Photo Story 2 which enabled you to pan and zoom in on still photos and create slideshows that could contain narration, music and other effects. For those who do home movies there is Plus! Effects and Transitions for Windows Movie Maker 2. Another feature on this disk works with music. There is a party mode for Windows Media Player. There is Plus! Dancer to add to your screen. There is a program in which you can copy vinyl and cassette tapes to your computer. With the additional purchase of a MP3 converter program you can then take that music and change the format to MP3 to put on CD ROM disks which you can play on other equipment. All in all the 2 disks contain a variety of interesting programs for those who have a computer equipped with Windows XP. Virus Alert A member claims to have Trojans in her computer. She was advised to go to AVG control centre and click on TEST CENTRE, THEN VIRUS VAULT. She should be able to eliminate the Trojans. A TIP: We were all advised NOT to go to PC PITSTOP! This writer went to the site out of curiosity. These people claim to scan your PC for Spyware. Also through them you can get an ‘anonymous internet provider’, PC Diagnostics Freeware,. Etc.etc. Our advice from a professional was not to go there. So please heed this advice. More tips: if you receive email with links, do not open them. They may seem harmless, however, can be harmful. There was mention of a Web site, Peer to Peer. Or P2P Again this writer checked through Google. There are many sites with that Handle. You might want to check this site: searchnetworking.techtarget.com. For Digital Camera buffs, there was a conversation regarding Dock Printers. The following site should give the information you require: http://www.kodak.com/. Hope this is helpful. Thanks go out to all of our coffee and sweets servers. Mary Carey and Helga Neumann have offered to do the coffee for the Month of April. |
