ELCC Computer Club

General Meeting Minutes

20 May, 2005

The meeting begins with Bob Young #1 announcing that the club's website will not be updated until software problems are resolved. This problem resulted from the website being transferred to a new hard drive. During transfer some of the data was lost.

Karen Middeljans has agreed to do the coffee for June, but she will need another volunteer to help with the duties. Please let her know as soon as possible if you are interested (She also wishes to sell her Norton Internet Security disk). Her phone number is 8-2352. The alternative to the club doing the coffee is to pay Tim Horton's $42 for an urn.

Sturg A Use Izarc which can be found at SnapFiles.

Bob Young #2 announces that Netscape 8 has been released. This browser blocks spyware, warns you of suspicious sites, and will speed up dialup connections.

Pest Patrol has a free 30 day evaluation period. For an indefinite evaluation period, see Bittorrent.

Charlie Smallwood has problems updating his Pest Patrol.

John Sturgis suggests reinstalling Pest Patrol using the clean install option in XP (if you have XP).

Bob Young #1 has a friend who moved to a small town outside of North Bay where there is no cable or dsl. However, Vianet offers a satellite service that costs $50/mo. Installation is $150. A typical song on Napster or can be downloaded in 90 seconds. It is as fast as cable on a good day so you can get a movie faster than you can watch it.

Cheap Ink Jet Cartridges

Thank Stan Krizmanich for this excellent information. Go to Atlantic Inkjet for big savings. Stan bought six cartridges for $19.85 for his Canon. Generic cartridges are $4.95 each. You are not so lucky if you have a Dell or a Lexmark printer. These cost about $28.95 each. Shipping costs are about $6.50.
